Barry O’ Farrell’s tweets addressing the Indo-Pacific Quad countries on the day of American Independence

Barry O’Farrell AO, the former Australian politician who is serving as Australia’s High Commissioner to India since May 2020, tweeted on his Twitter account about Australia forming a close relationship with America as Indo-Pacific Quad partners after wishing the USA their Independence.

He said, “America and Australia share historic & cultural ties, & a close friendship that binds our two countries. And as Quad partners, we stand together for a free, open, & resilient Indo-Pacific.”

The Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QSD), colloquially the Quad is known as a strategic security dialogue formed between Australia, India, Japan, and the U.S.A. Together these countries are called the Quad partners for the Indo-Pacific Partnership for Maritime Domain Awareness (IPMDA).

This year the Quad Leader’s Summit was held in Tokyo on May 24, and India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi along with United States President Joe Biden, Australian PM Anthony Albasene, and Japanese PM Fumio Kishida joined the summit.

PM Modi said at the summit, “Today, Quad’s scope has become extensive, its form effective. Our mutual trust and our determination is giving new energy and enthusiasm to democratic powers.” The Prime Minister has also added that the country’s cooperation in the mutually free, open, and inclusive Indo-Pacific region can better the development which is the main aim of forming the Quad. He also stated that Quad will provide swift delivery of vaccines, healthcare materials, supply chain resilience, disaster response, economic cooperation, and other important aspects related to nationwide development.

According to the sources, US President Joe Biden has also embarked on the summit addressing the Russia-Ukraine conflict and said, “This is more than just a European issue, it’s a global issue. Global food crisis may worsen with Russia blocking Ukraine from exporting its grains. As long as Russia continues the war, US will work with its partners.” He added, “We are Indo-Pacific powers. As long as Russia continues the war, we are going to be partners and lead a global response. We stay together for the shared values and vision we have.”

Mr. Biden also mentioned that the goal of this Quad is to maintain peaceful cooperation between the Indo-Pacific bonded countries with stable economies and resilience. The Australian PM Albanese also prioritized the issue of global warming and climate change, cyber security, health, energy, and environmental security in the Quad countries. He also mentioned that his government’s target is to reduce emissions by 43% within 2030 and Australia will be the country to provide more Pacific strategies for the environment.

Barry’O Farrel’s tweet is a reminder of the cooperative goals that were taken during the summit between the Indo-Pacific Quad countries.
