PV Sindhu of India had to settle for a silver medal after losing to An Seyoung of South Korea 16-21 12-21 in the final of the BWF World Tour Finals on Sunday.
The world champion Indian ace had no response for the world number six Korean, who dictated terms from the start.
An was outstanding in both net and baseline play on the day, never allowing the two-time Olympic medalist Indian shuttler to get back into the match, which lasted only 39 minutes.
Seyoung entered the season-ending tournament with back-to-back victories in the Indonesia Masters and Indonesia Open, as well as a quarterfinal victory over Sindhu at the Denmark Open in October. Sindhu made her third appearance in the competition final. She had won the title in 2018, making her the first and only Indian to do it.
