While a lot of us were waiting for a proper facelift of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, the latest update does bring several notable additions to the premium hatchback. However, when it comes to the overall exterior design and proportions, much of the vehicle continues to remain the same.
So, what exactly has changed with the new Baleno 2026? Let’s take a look.
New 1.2-Litre Z-Series Engine
Starting with one of the biggest changes, Maruti Suzuki has replaced the previous 1.2-litre four-cylinder K-Series petrol engine with a new 1.2-litre Z-Series three-cylinder petrol engine.
While the new engine sees a slight drop in overall power output of around 8 PS, it is said to offer better low-end torque, particularly for city driving, along with improved fuel efficiency.
The transmission options continue to include a 5-speed manual gearbox and 5-speed AMT/AGS.
CNG + AMT Combination
Another important addition is the availability of a factory-fitted CNG powertrain paired with an AMT gearbox.
Speaking of fuel efficiency, the new Baleno is claimed to offer up to 23.80 km/l with the manual transmission and 24.77 km/l with the AGS/AMT version. The S-CNG variant, on the other hand, is claimed to deliver up to 33.61 km/kg.
Level 2 ADAS Suite
Safety has also received a significant upgrade with the addition of a Level 2 ADAS suite, which is pointed out to offer eight advanced driver assistance features.
Some of the notable features include Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, Emergency Braking, and High-Beam Assist.
A Highline Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) has also been added, letting users monitor the individual tyre pressure levels of the vehicle.
Ventilated Seats, Cooled Wireless Charger and Clarion Audio
Coming to the cabin, the updated Baleno brings a few new comfort and technology features as well.
The vehicle now gets ventilated front seats, while a Qi-certified cooled wireless charging pad has also been introduced.
The audio system has also received an upgrade with the addition of a Clarion sound system.
Refreshed Front Profile, But Familiar Overall Design
As mentioned, the Baleno hasn’t received an extensive exterior redesign. The most noticeable change is present at the front, where Maruti Suzuki has introduced a new NEXWave grille featuring three prominent chrome slats and Suzuki logo has also been moved from the grille to the bonnet.
Apart from this, however, much of the exterior remains familiar. The side profile, overall body lines, and rear bumper design have largely been carried forward from the previous model.
Even the LED projector headlamps, three-arrow DRLs, and L-shaped LED tail lamps continue with their familiar design. The higher variants also retain the 16-inch precision-cut dual-tone alloy wheels.
A new Enigmatic Teal Green colour option has additionally been introduced, replacing the previous Luxe Beige shade.
Dimensions and Platform Remain the Same
Coming to the dimensions, there are no major changes here either. The Baleno continues to measure 3,990mm in length and has a 2,520mm wheelbase.
It also continues to be underpinned by Maruti Suzuki’s Heartect platform, retaining the lightweight construction of the outgoing model.
The boot space remains unchanged as well, and the relatively high loading lip continues to be present.
Familiar Interior Layout
Moving inside, the dashboard layout remains largely identical with its familiar layered dark blue and black treatment.
Maruti Suzuki has also retained the analogue instrument cluster with a central colour MID, rather than switching to a fully digital instrument cluster.
Other familiar features such as the pop-up Heads-Up Display (HUD), 360-degree camera, flat-bottom steering wheel, and physical automatic climate control switches have also been carried forward.
Still No Sunroof or Rear Centre Armrest
Despite the new feature additions, there are still a few notable omissions.
The updated Baleno does not get a sunroof, while a fold-down rear centre armrest also continues to be missing.
Pricing and Pre-Bookings
Pre-bookings for the updated Maruti Suzuki Baleno are currently open across NEXA channels for a fully refundable token amount of ₹11,000.
The Sigma base petrol manual variant has been introduced at ₹6.10 lakh (ex-showroom). Pricing for the Delta, Zeta, Alpha, and Alpha (O) variants is yet to be announced.
Maruti Suzuki is expected to reveal the complete variant-wise pricing shortly, with the overall price range across its 11 variants expected to go up to around ₹9.37 lakh.
