Ukraine’s Grain Exports Deal To Be Inked in Istanbul, Says Turkey
The Turkish presidency said on Thursday that an agreement for the transportation of grain from Ukrainian ports across the Black Sea will be signed on Friday with the involvement of Russia, Ukraine, the United Nations, and Turkey.
The signing ceremony will take place in the Dolmabahce Presidential Office in Istanbul on Friday at 18:30 local time (15:30 GMT), it stated. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres are anticipated to attend.
The deal comes at a time when worries about a worldwide food shortage are developing as a result of the extended Ukrainian conflict, which is largely to blame for the increases in food prices everywhere.
The four parties began their first round of talks last week in Istanbul to supply the international market with grain from Ukraine.
Turkiye has long acted as a middleman in the endeavor to put in place a system that will allow Ukraine to sell its grain to the international market via maritime channels, so preventing a food catastrophe.
Turkish officials have stated that Istanbul would become a functional center where the complete shipping procedure will be carried out.
Through the Bosphorus Strait, Turkiye regulates all marine trade entering and leaving the Black Sea.
