BSNL Reveals Official Name for Its 5G Services: Quantum 5G (Q-5G)

State-run telecom operator Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has officially named its upcoming 5G services as BSNL Q-5G – Quantum 5G. The announcement was made via the company’s official X account (formerly Twitter) on June 18, 2025. This follows BSNL’s earlier public engagement initiative where it invited citizens to suggest a name for its 5G service, which is expected to roll out after the stabilisation of its 4G network.
“You named it. We made it happen! Introducing THE BSNL Q-5G – Quantum 5G. A big THANK YOU to each and every one of you for your incredible support and enthusiastic participation. Because of you, we now have a name that reflects the power, speed, and future of BSNL’s 5G network. Together, we’ve not just launched a service – we’ve made history.”

Quantum 5G FWA Now Live in Select Circles
In a parallel update, BSNL’s UP East division also announced the inauguration of its Quantum 5G Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) service. The message, posted via the BSNL UP East account, stated:
“BSNL Quantum 5G FWA Inaugurated! Today marks a historic moment as the Hon’ble CMD BSNL inaugurated the revolutionary BSNL Quantum 5G FWA (Fixed Wireless Access) service in the esteemed presence of the Board of Directors and all CGMs.”
The 5G FWA service is being positioned as a SIM-free, high-speed wireless internet solution for enterprises, with no voice support. A banner on the official BSNL website promotes the service as:
“BSNL Q-5G, the Quantum Leap – first 5G FWA without SIM. No Wires, Blazing Fast, Secure, Reliable, and Affordable.”
This marks a strategic step forward for BSNL as it works to expand its network capabilities. The FWA service is being rolled out initially in selected cities across selected circles, targeting enterprise customers via Internet Lease Line over 5G FWA, starting at Rs 999 per month.
Not for General Consumers Yet
It is important to note that this new BSNL Q-5G offering is currently limited to enterprise use and not intended for regular mobile consumers. The public 5G rollout is expected to take place after BSNL’s 4G infrastructure sees broader deployment and stabilisation, with the telco recently planning to deploy an additional 1 lakh 4G towers across the country.
