The Samsung Galaxy S27 series has already been appearing in several reports, and the alleged colour options of the Ultra model were recently shared by tipster Ice Universe. Now, a new report from South Korean publication Seoul Economic Daily has pointed to a possible chipset change for the Galaxy S27 Ultra, with Samsung reportedly considering its Exynos 2700 chip following heating issues with Qualcomm’s flagship processor.
Here’s more about the update.
Samsung Galaxy S27 Ultra – Report Points to Possible Exynos 2700 Chipset Switch
As per the details shared by the publication, Samsung is reportedly carrying out final performance testing of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 chip for its upcoming Galaxy S27 Ultra smartphone, where, during its internal tests, the chipset repeatedly exceeded the brand’s temperature limits. The report adds that the increased temperature reportedly resulted in thermal throttling, bringing down processing speeds during extended gaming and AI workloads.
The test results were reportedly shared by Samsung with Qualcomm last month in September 2026, and improvements were requested by mid-October. Both companies are currently working on optimising the chipset and testing it again.
Regarding the chipset that will be offered on the device, Samsung is expected to proceed with the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 if the heating issue is resolved. However, the Exynos 2700 is said to be under consideration as an alternative if the Qualcomm chip does not meet its requirements.
To note, an industry official has also clarified that Qualcomm’s processor has not been ruled out for the Galaxy S27 Ultra. However, alternatives would have to be considered if the issue remains unresolved, in order to keep the mass-production schedule on track.
Speaking more, if the Exynos 2700 is equipped within the Galaxy S27 Ultra, it would mark the return of an Exynos chip to the Ultra lineup for the first time since the Galaxy S22 Ultra in 2022. Qualcomm chipsets have been offered globally on Samsung’s Ultra models since the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
We expect a clarity regarding the same, once the device appears on the Geekbench database in the coming months.
Stay tuned until then.
