Five New Apple AirPods Features Revealed: Could be Announced at the Upcoming WWDC25 Event

Apple – the Cupertino based tech maker will be conducting its WWDC25 event next week and now as per an update from 9to5Mac, five new AirPods features have been revealed. These features are also reported to be announced as early as Monday – on the day of the WWDC25 Keynote.

Here’s more about the update.

New Apple AirPods Features Revealed Ahead of the WWDC25 Event

  • New Head Gestures

With the Head Gestures feature, Apple had introduced ‘up and down’ and ‘side to side’ controls to accept or decline calls and interact or dismiss notifications without the need of using hands. As per the new report, Apple is believed to bring out new gestures which include Conversation Awareness volume adjustment functionality and more.

  • Sleep Auto Pause

As of now, if users have a tendency or habit of dozing off while listening to songs or podcasts, Sleep Timer is the only reliable option they have, however it is not supported on every music or podcast apps. It is now being said that Apple is working on a feature which will allow the AirPods to detect when the user falls asleep and then automatically pause the music/podcast for them. This feature which will be useful to many is still not sure to be a standalone feature, and it could be working with the help of Apple Watch that supports sleep monitoring functionality.

  • Camera Control

Camera Control support on AirPods by tapping on the stem is also a feature that users have been wanting to have, and Apple is expected to roll it out soon for users. But it should be noted that Apple will have to provide some kind of optimization for it as reaching out to the ear for every remotely taken picture would appear weird and strange.

  • Audio Mix

The Audio Mix feature was brought out last year and it lets users choose from three voice options – In Frame, Studio, and Cinematic. Apple is currently developing a similar mic mode for its AirPods too, which would eventually make it stronger competitor product in the creator lav mic segment.

  • Wider Classroom Support

It is already known that Apple is working on an iPad sharing functionality where multiple users make use of the same device. With Wider Classroom support, the AirPods connectivity to iPad devices in such scenarios will be streamlined with fewer manual steps.

About the WWDC25 event, it is scheduled to commence next week from the 9th of June 2025 and it will continue till the 13th of June 2025. Chances are there that a few of the above mentioned features could be delayed and tweaked prior to their public availability, while a few of them could be unveiled at the brand’s upcoming annual developer conference event.

Stay tuned for more updates.
