Apple tipped to rename its upcoming iOS 19 to iOS 26

Recently, Apple has announced that its upcoming WWDC25 event will be conducted from 9th June to 13th June. Reports revealed that Apple will be providing glimpses into its iOS 19, iPadOS 19, and macOS 16 operating systems.

Ahead of this scheduled Apple event, it is revealed that Apple is planning to rename its operating system. According to a recent report by Bloomberg, the next Apple operating system will be identified by year rather than by version number. iOS 19 will be renamed to iOS 26. The report also reveals that other updates will be known as iPadOS 26, macOS 26, watchOS 26, tvOS 26, and visionOS 26. This change is done to align with the calendar year following its release.

Seems like Apple is planning to follow the operating system name trend, like how carmakers name future models based on the year.

Apart from introducing new operating systems, Apple is also expected to present its AI-related advancements at the upcoming WWDC25 event. The brand has promised a week of technology and creativity at its next Worldwide Developers Conference. Apple’s WWDC25 Keynote is scheduled to take place on the first day itself (9th June 2025) at 10 AM PT, followed by the Platforms State of the Union at 1 PM PT on the same day.
