Nothing CEO, Carl Pei Reviews the Latest OnePlus 11 Smartphone: Here’s More About it

Here’s the take by Nothing CEO, Carl Pei on the OnePlus 11 smartphone launched recently.

OnePlus 11 According to Carl Pei

Carl Pei in a recent video published on the official YouTube channel of Nothing reviews the OnePlus 11 smartphone. He has given his opinions about the smartphone’s design, performance and cameras and has also compared it with the Nothing Phone 1.

Design

Speaking of the design, Carl Pei has mentioned that the smartphone indeed has a premium design to it with a lot of detailing on the smartphone and on the camera module. However he has also pointed out some of the drawbacks which really annoys him.

According to Carl Pei, the OnePlus 11 has a curved edged design which makes the smartphone look much more thinner than it actually is. This also gives the smartphone a good advantage while being held in hand. The rear panel feels exactly like previous OnePlus devices but comparing to a regular glass back smartphone, the phone is quite slippery.

One of the main drawbacks Carl Pei has identified is in the alignment of the alert slider with the power button. They are not aligned! The power button and the volume rocker also fall on the thinner side and is much thinner compared to the Nothing Phone.

The side bezels of the device and the camera module is metal but what is really shocking to learn as pointed out by Carl Pei is that, it is not a single piece but two. He has also pointed out about how misleading the images of the OnePlus 11 are in making its viewers believe that it is one single piece.

User Interface

The OnePlus 11 smartphone has a neomorphic design which is mixture of skeuomorphic and flat design. Unlike the Nothing Phone 1, the OnePlus 11 smartphone brings a lot of customization options for its users which might be appealing to users who prefer to customize their device to get a more personalised feel. The Nothing Phone on the other hand gives a much more stock Android experience to its users.

It is also to be noted that the device which was reviewed by Carl Pei was the OnePlus device which has the ColorOS 13 custom user interface which is based on the latest Android 13 operating system.

Camera

The OnePlus 11 smartphone has a a triple rear camera setup with a 50MP wide camera, 32MP telephoto camera and a 48MP ultrawide camera which is powered by Hasselblad and one can find the Hasselblad logo on the camera module as well.

When the OnePlus 11 is compared with the Nothing Phone’s camera setup, the Nothing Phone has a dual camera setup with a 50MP wide camera and a 50MP ultrawide camera.

As per what Carl Pei noticed, both the Nothing Phone 1 and the OnePlus 11 smartphones have cameras that are comparable with almost the same camera quality. But when the smartphones are zoomed to capture photos, the OnePlus smartphone offers better detailing with its camera.

Performance

As noted by Carl Pei, the OnePlus 11 smartphone comes with the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset while the Nothing Phone 1 has the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G+ 5G (6 nm) chipset. This will allow the OnePlus smartphone to deliver the best gaming experience than the Nothing smartphone.

The haptics in the OnePlus smartphone is also quite quick and responds instantly without much delays.

The Verdict

So when compared with the Nothing Phone 1, the OnePlus smartphone offers a slightly better camera and better performance with a lot of customization options on its user interface. But the design of the smartphone even if it appears premium doesn’t appeal to Pei and the Nothing Phone 1 which comes with the award winning design with glyph interface has an upper hand over the OnePlus smartphone.

One of the main issues with the OnePlus smartphone is in its identity as it resembles nothing much like its previous models and for Pei identity of a brand is important.

The Nothing Phone 1 is also half the price of the OnePlus 11 smartphone and still will be able to meet up with its users daily needs
