Multiple claims on Twitter of Tiktok’s data breach; netizens trend #TikTokBreach

The last 20 hours saw numerous alleged posts on Twitter, reporting that the popular content creation app, TikTok’s data was breached. Although there wasn’t any confirmation by TikTok themselves, many cyber threat analysts went round around the claims and data available.

Bob Diachenko, a Cyber Threat Intelligence at the securitydiscovery.com claimed tweeted at 4:54 pm on Monday that the #TikTokBreach is real. He confirmed the alleged claims by mentioning that his organization’s team analyzed the publicly available repos. The results confirmed partial users data leak.

However, later development in turn of events saw Bob Diachenko contradicting his previous statements. At 6:36 pm on Monday, he contradicted his previous statement and asserted that they still weren’t able to confirm #TikTokBreach. He justified this statement by mentioning that available datapoints pointed in the direction of numerous apps created by Hangzhou Julun Network Technology.

He soon followed up and added that the data available was likely to come from Hangzhou Julun Network Technology Co., Ltd rather than TikTok. He further questioned the availability of so much data online.

The incidents points to assumptions that it is true that a data breach has occurred. However, what isn’t clear is the source. Netizens are assuming that third party breach is possibly affecting the ongoing events.

Other Netizens are of the view that the activity might be some marketing tactics by TikTok crawlers.

Another Twitter handle @AnonZenn (AnonZenn ~ KiraSec) has been claiming that the TikTok breach is true. The account also credited #AgainstTheWest and @AgressiveCurl as the initiator of the breach.
