Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan’s Instagram account hacked, was promoting Elon Musk read more

Former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan’s Instagram account was compromised by an unknown hacker or hacker group for a short period of time on July 31, where his handle shared a post asking Tesla Motors Founder Elon Musk to donate at least three bitcoins.

Hackers even use Imran Khan’s account to share an unauthorized cryptocurrency link with his 7.4 million followers along with a screenshot of a tweet apparently posted by Elon Musk who is quite active on Twitter. Security officials state that the hackers were expecting to earn cash by impersonating Mr. Khan. Hackers gained access to Mr. Khan’s Instagram story settings and posted a screenshot of Musk’s tweet about winning 100,000.

However, the tweet made by Mr. Musk was not available anywhere on his social media handle and was deemed to be a doctored one. A social media head named Arsian Khalid said that Mr. Khan’s Instagram account was soon recovered by the parent company Meta.

Imran Khan wasn’t the only person who was a victim of such cyber attacks but there were also other PTI members whose accounts were hacked in dramatic ways. However, the details regarding the hacker or hacker group were not confirmed by the Pakistani media.
