Elon Musk announces the 2023 launch of Starlink V2 by SpaceX Know More

On August 25, 2022, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk made a statement on the launch of Starlink V2 in 2023 during a gathering that was moderated by T-Mobile CEO Mike Sievert. Recently, a new partnership between SpaceX and T-Mobile was announced as the former seeks to eliminate mobile dead zones.

According to a tweet from Musk, “Starlink V2, launching next year, will transmit directly to mobile phones, eliminating dead zones worldwide,”

Musk wrote in a subsequent tweet “Note, connectivity will be 2 to 4 Mbits per cell zone, so will work great for texting & voice calls, but not high bandwidth,”.

Starting in 2023, mobile phones will be able to use the Coverage Above and Beyond configuration to connect to Starlink satellites, offering a connection bandwidth of 2-4 Megabits per second within a given coverage region.

The next generation of Starlink satellites, which will be launched in the following year, will be able to utilise T-Mobile’s mid-band PCS spectrum, according to tech experts. He also said that the upcoming Starlink satellite generation will feature enormous antennas, measuring about 5 to 6 metres across, which will aid in connectivity. The satellites will be launched by SpaceX’s brand-new Starship rocket.

The new connection, according to the company, would enable customers to send text messages, MMS, and use selective messaging services whenever there is a clear sky without requiring regular service.
