WhatsApp users stay alert! Fake RTO challan message surfaces on WhatsApp that may lead your mobile getting hacked

We all have heard numerous cases about fraudsters sending scam messages over WhatsApp, SMS and other social media platforms in order to steal the personal details of a user or hack their devices. A similar scam is now going on over WhatsApp.

Various users online have reported receiving an RTO challan message on WhatsApp from an unknown number. Well, many users have thought this message to be authentic and fallen into the trap of scamsters, as this is not an authentic message but a fake one.

As revealed by the tipster @yabhishekhd, once you open the attached file, your mobile gets hacked, and the same message is auto-sent to your contacts. It can even lead to your WhatsApp number getting banned. The message usually contains a file with the name RTO E Challan.apk or Mparivahan.apk. In the comment section of the above post, many users have shared screenshots of receiving such messages.

Reportedly, this APK file contains malware that gives remote access to anyone’s phone to cyber criminals. They can then easily steal your bank details, personal information, and financial data.

Users are advised to stay aware of such scams and not download any APK file from an unknown source. If you want to check the challan, then check it only on the official portals related to it, like Parivahan or the state RTO website. Also, do keep in mind that the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways or the mParivahan service never sends challan notifications via WhatsApp.
