The US Federal Court System was hit by pro-Russian hackers-led cybersecurity breach in 2021 revealed recently

The House Judiciary Chairman Representative Jerrold Nadler confirmed in a public hearing that a major cybersecurity breach hit the US federal court system in 2020. The hearing focused on the failure of the Department of Justice National Security Division to protect the cybersecurity space. In this regard, Nadler said, “The federal court system faced an incredibly significant and sophisticated cybersecurity breach, one which has since had lingering impact on the department and other agencies.”

According to the reports, several organizations were targeted by pro-Russian threat actors through the products and systems of IT management firm SolarWinds in early 2021. The Administrative Office of the US Court launched an investigation and stated that threat actors used the IT corporation SolarWinds’ systems by actively compromising them. Nadler said that “the disturbing impact this security breach had on pending civil and criminal litigation, as well as on ongoing national security or intelligence matters.”

Nadler also demanded to know from assistant attorney general Matt Olsen the number of cases impacted by the security breach on US soil. Several lawmakers demanded to know more about the incident and details from the federal judiciary following the disclosure of the attack.

However, when an investigation was launched on SolarWinds’ data breach, the judiciary said that they will put additional safeguards to protect sensitive court records on paper documents or thumb drive storage.
