Students are getting ready to return to school while the effects of the WRDSB cyberattack continue

The Waterloo Region District School was hit by a cyber attack. Staff, students and their families were informed about the attack and asked to have patience. Students prepare to head back to school after the cyber attack. The majority of children at the Waterloo Region District School Board still don’t know who their teachers will be four days before the start of the school year, and some won’t be able to catch the bus on the first day of classes as the board continues to deal with the effects of a cyber hack. The board stated in a notice published on its website on Wednesday that it was unable to communicate teacher and classroom assignments via the platform School-Day as it has in previous years.

The reason the board was unable to access School-Day was not stated. However, different schools in the district have informed the parents that it was caused by a cyberattack that happened earlier this summer. Parents were given a heads-up last week by the board that while the majority of pupils will be able to ride the bus on the first day, those who have just moved may not have access to it until Sept. 19 or later.
