Starlink provides uninterrupted internet connectivity to Ukraine to fight against Russian propaganda

An MIT research scientist Lex Fridman said on his Twitter handle tagging SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk, “Starlink has proven itself in the harshest conditions in Ukraine. When nothing else worked, Starlink worked. Countless people have told me stories of how it has saved their life. Over & over they asked me to send a big thank you to SpaceX, and to the American people.”

According to reports, Elon Musk’s SpaceX has expanded its Starlink satellite internet network in Ukraine amid the political crisis the country is going through. The Ukrainian government reports say that approximately 150,000 people use Starlink internet connectivity each day. The Digital Ministry of the country detailed that there are “around 150K  rough data” where Starlink services are being used on a regular basis.

On May 2, 2022, Ukraine’s government official Mykhailo Fedorov said on Twitter, “Rough data on Starlink usage: around 150K active users per day. This is crucial support for Ukraine’s infrastructure and restoring the destroyed territories. Ukraine will stay connected no matter what.”

Currently, Starlink has more than 2,500 mass-produced small satellites in low Earth orbit along with its plan of launching almost 4,400 satellites by spreading them in different orbit shells. The satellites provide high-speed internet service even in the most remote part of Ukraine.

There are more than 10,000 Starlink terminals such as dishes or antennas being used by consumers and enterprises in the region of Ukraine. According to sources, previously almost contributions of $15 million were done on hardware and transportation services to deliver Starlink terminals in Ukraine.

Reportedly Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised Starlink for providing quality services in the country and in the process it has helped to dismantle Russian propaganda on Ukrainian soil. He also praised Starlink for enhancing connectivity throughout Ukraine after it was lost due to Russian aggression.

Mr. Zelenskyy said this in a tweet dated March 6, 2022, “Talked to Elon Musk. I’m grateful to him for supporting Ukraine with words and deeds. Next week we will receive another batch of Starlink Systems for destroying cities. Discussed possible space projects. But I’ll talk about this after the war.”
