Starlink to not provide internet services in Ukraine anymore, after Andrij Melnyk’s tweet

To end the conflict that began seven months ago, Elon Musk made a peace offer to Ukraine and Russia. Ukrainian diplomat Andrij Melnyk responded in a rather direct manner.

Elon Musk has suggested that the recent Russian referendums on whether to annex four regions of Ukraine, which the West considered to be a fake and manipulated poll, be redone under the supervision of the UN and that Russia should withdraw from Ukraine “if that is the will of the people.”

In Elon Musk’s suggested peace agreement, the peninsula of Crimea, which Russia invaded in 2014, would become a part of Russia. The area would no longer be under Ukrainian control, and the water supply in Crimea would be “assured.” He also advised that Ukraine maintain its neutrality in international affairs in accordance with its peace agreement. The suggestion was addressed by Ukrainian diplomat Andrij Melnyk on Twitter. He tweeted: “F**k you is my very diplomatic response to you @elonmusk”

Then, he posted the following in response to another tweet from Elon Musk: “The only result is that from now on, no Ukrainian will buy your damn Tesla. So good luck to you @elonmusk”.

Soon after this incident, Elon Musk announced that Starlink will not be funding internet service in Ukraine anymore. In a letter to the Pentagon, Musk’s company claimed that the firm was unable to continue its present level of support for the Starlink service.  The businessman also explicitly mentions the Pentagon taking over funding for the Ukrainian government and military usage of Starlink in the letter.

Jason Jay Smart, an American political consultant mentioned in his tweet that Elon Musk’s Starlink says it can no longer afford to give Ukraine free service and asks the Pentagon to pay for it. Starlink had been a game changer in the war. This comes days after Ukrainian Ambassador @MelnykAndrij told Musk to “fuck off,” Elon Musk replied, “We’re just following his recommendation.”
