Samsung has reportedly stopped accepting new orders for mobile DRAM LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X

Samsung’s Semiconductor website shows that the South Korean tech giant has discontinued LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X. A Korean publication, The Elec, has reported that Samsung has stopped accepting new orders for mobile DRAM LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X, according to industry sources on 17th April.
It is said that the company has recently taken final orders and will now fulfil only previously received volumes, after which the products will be discontinued under end-of-life (EOL) status. To complete the final orders, the production of LPDDR4 and LPDDR4X is expected to continue through this year.
The order window for these products lasted longer than expected (8-10 years) due to sustained customer demand. The manufacturing lines are likely to be converted starting in Q1 2027. Meanwhile, customers who have secured inventory will need to revise long-term plans.
Samsung is expected to shift its phones to LPDDR5 entirely once LPDDR4X inventory is depleted (for example, Galaxy A17). LPDDR5 offers speeds of up to 6.4Gbps, about 50% faster than LPDDR4X, which reaches up to 4.3 Gbps.
With Samsung switching to higher-speed DRAM options, it is said that the company may secure higher revenue in the coming years as DRAM prices continue to increase. While consumers will also benefit from faster memory chips in low-end and mid-range devices.
