Windows 11 April 2026 Security Update for Version 26H1, 25H2, 24H2, and 23H2 – Officially Released

The April 2026 Windows 11 security update that is now being rolled out includes both security fixes and system improvements, while also integrating the non-security enhancements that were part of the optional preview updates released in late March 2026. For Windows 11 version 26H1, the update carries the KB version number ‘KB5083768’, whereas versions 25H2 and 24H2 receive the ‘KB5083769’ package, and version 23H2 receives the ‘KB5082052’ package.

Regardless of which Windows 11 version you are running (26H1, 25H2, 24H2, or 23H2), all users receive these core security and performance upgrades:

    • You can now see the status of your Secure Boot certificates directly within the Windows Security app (Settings > Privacy & security > Windows Security). It will use badges and notifications to alert you if action is needed.
    • Microsoft has refined how these certificates are delivered, ensuring eligible devices receive them automatically only after successful “update signals,” which helps prevent potential issues.
    • This update resolves a critical bug where some devices would unexpectedly enter BitLocker Recovery mode after a Secure Boot update.
    • If your network uses SMB compression over QUIC (a protocol used for faster and more secure file transfers), this update improves reliability. It reduces the chance of connection timeouts and provides smoother performance.
    • Remote Desktop (Phishing Protection): To prevent malicious attacks via .rdp files:
      • Windows now forces you to review connection settings, which are disabled by default, before actually connecting.
      • You will see a one-time security warning the first time you open an .rdp file on your device.

In addition to the above-mentioned updates, the April 2026 update also includes the “Sign-In” fix for Windows 11 version 23H2 (KB5082052), which fixes an issue that causes users to erroneously receive “No Internet” errors when attempting to access Microsoft services like Teams. Additionally, for versions 25H2 and 24H2, the update (KB5083769) addresses a critical failure in the “Reset this PC” functionality—specifically when selecting “Keep my files” or “Remove everything”—which had been an ongoing problem following the March 2026 Hotpatch release.
