Latest Ubuntu 25.04 (Plucky Puffin) OS Version for Desktop PCs and Laptops Now Available

The latest version of the Ubuntu operating system – Ubuntu 25.04 has now been made available. It brings several improvements and feature additions for users of desktop PCs and laptops.

Ubuntu 25.04 OS Version – Now Available to Download and Install

The Ubuntu 25.04 OS version is codenamed – ‘Plucky Puffin’, and it brings to desktop PC and laptop users the latest GNOME 48 desktop (Preserve battery mode and Well-being panel), enhanced performance for AI and Intel GPUs, confidential computing support, new ARM64 ISO, and devpacks. Additionally, a modern PDF reader (Papers as default PDF readers), enhanced installer (improved encryption options and interactions with BitLocker Windows installations), as well as better battery health features are part of the latest Ubuntu version.

Speaking more, the Linux Kernel 6.14 (along with the latest hardware support) and the BeaconDB (as the new geo-location provider) are also included in the Ubuntu 25.04 version.

The system requirements needed for Ubuntu 25.04 version are 2GHz dual core processor (or better), 4GB system memory, 25GB free hard drive space, USB port/DVD drive for installer media, and accessible internet connectivity. The installation process involves users to download the ISO image > create a bootable USB flash drive (either with balenaEtcher or similar) > and then boot the device (desktop PC or laptop) from the USB flash drive.

For Intel or AMD 64-bit architecture, the downloadable file has a size of 5.9GB, whereas the total file size is 3.6GB for the ARM 64-bit architecture.
