The mobile app for Facebook Gaming will be discontinued later this year

A little over two years after its launch, Facebook’s gaming app for iOS and Android is being discontinued. Facebook has informed users that as of October 28, 2022, the app will no longer function or be available for download. In order to compete with Twitch, YouTube, and Mixer, Facebook introduced Gaming in 2018. In 2020, a companion mobile app was released. Facebook Gaming established a creator programme as well as additional capabilities to help build out its platform, such as the option to co-stream, in order to help attract users in a sector that is mostly controlled by Twitch and YouTube.

The web-based version of Facebook’s game streaming platform will continue to be accessible despite the app’s impending demise. In 2019, YouTube discontinued its gaming app because it was causing “confusion” among users and replaced it with a gaming hub linked to the main YouTube app.

In Facebook’s user notice, it says “We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to all of you for everything that you’ve done to build a thriving community for gamers and fans since the app first launched,”,
