Apple iPhone 16 Series Devices Might Feature a Stacked CMOS Image Sensor Design: Predicts Analyst
The Cupertino-based multi-national tech company, Apple, is expected to unveil its iPhone 15 series devices soon and ahead of it, an Apple analyst predicts that the next line-ups after the 15 series, the iPhone 16 series, might feature a stacked CMOS image sensor design.

With the iPhone 15 series launch not yet taken place and with the launch of the iPhone 16 series a long way ahead, it is indeed too early to speak about the iPhone 16 series devices but, an Apple analyst, Ming-Chi Kuo predicts that the series is likely going to have a stacked CMOS(Complementary Metal-Oxide-Semiconductor) image sensor design for its rear cameras. He further also adds that the upcoming iPhone 15 and 15 Plus devices, the standard variants of the 15 series, are expected to come with a similar design.
To speak about the iPhone 15 series standard variants, as far as it is concerned, the two upcoming devices are expected to feature a 48MP camera lens in its rear camera setup along with the stacked CMOS image sensor design. This is to help the device become capable of capturing more light, thereby enhancing its image and video quality.
To note, Apple initially was expected to bring this stacked CMOS image sensor design to all of its iPhone 15 series devices, but supply issues might have prevented them from doing so. However, Apple has managed to secure most of Sony’s high-end CIS(camera image sensor) orders, even if Sony is facing constraints in its capacity, which is likely to remain the same until 2025. Other companies like Will Semi, might receive more orders for high-end CIS from Chinese smartphone makers as a result of this.
Apple is expected to unveil its iPhone 15 series devices next month on the 23th of September 2023 and the series is going to include four models – the standard models like the iPhone 15 and 15 Plus and the Pro variants, iPhone 15 Pro and 15 Pro Max.
