Use of after-market electrical accessories in XUV 700 led a fire incident on Jaipur Highway- Mahindra & Mahindra

After Tata Motors, Mahindra has come to notice regarding a fire incident. Last month we reported an incident regarding the Tata Nexon EV fire incident. A video was surfacing on the internet in which a Nexon EV was seen being doused with water. Later Tata technical experts after a detailed investigation found out that the fitment and repair process at the unauthorized workshop was the reason.

Incident

A recent incident is about the Mahindra XUV700 car which caught fire out of nowhere on Jaipur Highway. A Twitter user name Kuldeep Singh sharing the video of the incident wrote

“Thank You, Mahindra For Risking My Family’s Life With Your Most Premium
Product (XUV700).
The Car Catches Fire While Driving On Jaipur Highway.
The car did not overheat, smoke came in the moving car, then it caught fire”.

Mahindra Automotive statement

The video posted by the user shows an XUV 500 parked on one side of the highway blazing with fire. Mahindra Automotive taking this issue into consideration issued an official statement with reference to the incident. It shared an image of the statement which reads “Our field service team reached out to the customer and an investigation has been conducted. Our initial finding suggests that the factory-fitted/original wiring has been tampered with, to accommodate after-market electrical accessories, which could have led to the incident”.

Even before Mahindra Automotive issued a statement in regard to this incident, Kuldeep clarified that he didn’t make any modifications in the car by writing “Kuch nahi kiya nye gaadi hai 6 mahine he hue h”. After Mahindra Automotive’s statement, Kuldeep has not responded yet. Though the reason is different the basic issue remains the same which is handling of car without the required expertise.
