Hard to gulp but once again GM has come forth to support the clean air rule

This week General Motors Co. has come forth with the Environmental Defence Fund to suggest strict laws for passenger vehicles. People would have praised this move only if GM’s history would have right enough to support this. But it’s not because GM has itself opposed some of the tougher fuel economy laws. If we talk about the GM and EDF move, they want the Environmental Protection Agency to make laws that ensure 50% of vehicles sold by 2030 be electrical vehicles. This move supports the statement of reducing pollution by 60% by 2050. Experts are not sure whether GM would follow its supported rule or not because earlier it moved back when it committed to support California’s clean air rules.

Support for this law will create pressure on GM itself because it will have to create electrically supported engines that can support heavy vehicles like SUVs. Tesla has no doubt set the trend for EVs but it would be interesting to see how GM plays its role in enacting these laws.
