LCD production to be ended by the end of 2020 – Samsung Display

Due to a fall in demand for LCD screens in recent times, Samsung display stopped one of its two LCD production lines. This decision was taken last year in October.

The South Korean giant Samsung display which is a part of Samsung electronics said that they have decided to end all its production for liquid controlled display LCD in both South Korea and China by the end of this year 2020.

Apple supplier made a statement in October that it will invest KRW 13.1 trillion ($10.72 billion) in upgrading the facilities’ production line.

This investment will be focused on converting the existing production lines into producing more advanced “quantum dot” screens. This investment will be distributed in the next five years.

There are two production lines in South Korea factories for LCD and two only LCD factories in china.

Samsung is yet to decide what to do with the facilities in china – spokesperson.
