Elon Reeves Musk, whose net worth is USD 209 billion as of January 2021, is more than just the face and CEO of Tesla and the billionaire with the questionable tweets. Musk owns a number of other companies and has founded a number of them. With the launch of Tesla in India confirmed, this is a great opportunity to take a look at some of his ventures.
- SpaceX
SpaceX is known for innovation and breaking boundaries. This company has introduced the concept of reusable rockets, space tourism and more. It was founded with the ambition of colonizing Mars. While the intent and goals of the company may sound rather enterprising, they have made huge strides. After being founded in 2002, they launched the first reusable rocket in 2015, and in early October 2020, Musk announced that the first batch of internet connectivity satellites have been launched.

2. Tesla
The crown jewel of all his ventures, Tesla is an electric vehicle maker that is often credit with popularizing battery-driven cars. While it began in July 2003 with the prototype of a single car, the brand now offers a variety of vehicles- SUVs, sports cars and sedans. Apart from locomotives, Tesla also acquired SolarCity, also owned by Musk. They manufacture solar panels and market them to be more accessible and usable.
3. Open AI
OpenAI is an artificial intelligence research laboratory. It was co-founded by Musk in December 2015. Although Musk resigned from the board in 2018, he remains to be its biggest donor. The company’s main objective is to develop machines with human intelligence while maintaining safety and transparency. In June 2020, the company launched its first tool: the API. It allows businesses to directly access Open AI’s general-purpose text generation AI.
4. Neuralink
Neuralink Corporation was founded in 2016. It is currently implanting a brain-machine interface. It’s objective is to help people with paralysis regain independence by controlling computers, phones and more. It aims to give people the ability to communicate via text or speech analysis.
5. The Boring Company
This company was founded out of a common frustration: traffic. In 2016, Musk founded the company with the aim to create subterranean tunnels that allow pedestrians, freight, utilities, or autonomous electric vehicles to move traffic on surface roads to more directly get from A to B. The company currently has one tunnel in testing in Hawthorne, California.
