The U.S Senate passed a milestone #MeToo Bill on February 10. This bill would guarantee a safe workplace for female workers. It acclaims the victims of sexual harassment or assault at the workplace to freely claim lawsuits against it in the courts.
On Thursday, the Senate passed H.R. 4445 to American President Joe Biden. The bill was aimed to address the issues of sexual assault or harassment at the workplace. These issues were earlier addressed in the contracts. However, this would prohibit the enforcement of employment contract provisions for arbitration of sexual harassment or assault claims at the workplace.
The trending #MeToo movement by the females exposed the compulsory arbitration agreements mentioned as a part of work contracts.
This bill would stop forced arbitration of workers and resolve disputes at the workplace. This week the House passed this bill and today, the Senate has approved the bill and is sent to President Joe Biden. The President is in support of this legislation. Arbitration is legally binding that takes place out-of-court.
The Bill would offer support to LGBTQ survivors and ” expand special criminal jurisdiction by tribal courts to cover non-native perpetrators of sexual assault.”
