YouTube Shorts Policy Update May Reduce Reach for Re-uploaded Videos

YouTube has now shared a new policy update for Shorts, and videos that are simply re-uploaded from other creators may receive less reach on the platform. Alongside it, guidance on using clips from other channels and adding original value has also been shared.

Read more about the update below.

YouTube Shorts – Reduced Distribution for Re-uploaded Videos and Guidance for Creators

As mentioned, Shorts videos that are simply re-uploaded from other YouTube channels will now likely receive less distribution within the Shorts feed. However, in order to make it unique, the blog mentions that creators should use clips from others to use their own original commentary, unique edits, or storytelling.

Making minor technical edits or template-based changes simply to alter a video is something that will not bring any newness to the video and may rather reduce your channel’s reach.

This is a good step by YouTube, because several creators were facing this kind of issue where some random channels start posting their YouTube Shorts, taking away the reach of an original content creator.

Stay tuned for more updates!
