Samsung releases a new update for the Gallery app; Introduces Gallery Cloud Sync mitigation

A few months ago, it was announced that starting September 30, 2026, Samsung Gallery will no longer sync directly with OneDrive, and all photos stored in OneDrive will disappear from the Samsung Gallery app.

Yesterday, the South Korean tech giant Samsung released a new update for the Gallery app, v15.9.01.7, via the Galaxy Store.

This new update introduces Gallery Cloud Sync migration that replaces Microsoft OneDrive with Google Cloud/Photos integration for photo and video backups for Galaxy users.

When you sync your Samsung device’s native gallery app with your Google account, you can automatically save your photos and videos from your Samsung device to your Google account and access those synced media across your Samsung devices and within Google Photos.

According to Google’s support page, photos and videos backed up through Samsung Gallery Cloud Sync are stored securely in your Google Photos account for basic actions like viewing and sharing. Unless you back up these items via Google Photos, they are not included in features such as (but not limited to): memories and highlights, live albums and search.

To turn on Samsung Gallery Cloud Sync with Google, open Gallery settings, select Sync Photos and videos, choose a Google account and grant permission to sync your media with Google.
