Back in March, Signal confirmed phishing attacks on its platform that targeted government officials and journalists. The company has now introduced some new changes on the Signal app to protect its users from phishing and social engineering attacks.
New changes to help users stay safe in Signal

Signal has announced new in-app confirmations and educational messages to counter phishing and social engineering.
- Look out for the name not verified notice. Signal can’t verify profile names.
- An additional confirmation step for accepting message requests: Only accept requests from people you trust.
- More detailed safety tips like Don’t respond to chats from Signal, Review names and photos and look out for scams.
- A reminder to never respond to a chat pretending to be Signal: Signal will never message you for your registration code, PIN, or recovery key. Don’t reply to chats pretending to be Signal or Signal support.
These additional confirmations and educational messaging in the app help people better detect fraudulent profiles, especially message requests from scammers posing as Signal.
