At the legal battle between Epic Games and Apple, US Federal Judge – Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers had questioned Apple for not allowing external payment links within iOS apps. The brand has now made the necessary changes, allowing iOS developers to link-out payments as well as encourage alternative payment methods. In related news, Stripe, Spotify, and Epic Games have also announced new updates that the brands have brought out as a result of the court’s decision.

Apple Updates its App Store Policies

As per instructed by the court, Apple has updated its App Store Policies, making significant changes that will be helping iOS app developers. From now on, apps can link out and there will be no prohibition to include buttons, external links, or other calls to action. Stripe Releases Quick Guide for iOS Developers to Avoid iOS App Store Commissions

Making use of the court decision, Stripe has also released a quick guide for iOS app developers which will walk them through on how to accept payments with Stripe outside the app. The documentation that has been shared explains the necessary steps using which, iOS app developers can set up a link within their app and accept payments using Stripe Checkout on iOS for purchases. Stripe’s new option will be taking the app users to a separate and secure Stripe-hosted page for the payment process. To note, the standard payment processing fees in Stripe is 2.9% along with an added USD 0.30 fee for each transaction.

Spotify Submits New App Update to Apple, With Pricing Info and Links

Following the court order and as Apple loosens its grip over its App Store rules, Spotify has also submitted a new app update to Apple. With this new update, Spotify will be able to share their promotional offers with its users, will allow users to link out payments, and will be able to inform users about different subscription options and how much users will be able to save on them.

Epic Games to Charge 0% Store Fee for First USD 1,000,000 Revenue From Next Month; EGS Webshops Also Launching Next Month 

From next month in June 2025, Epic Games Store will take 0% from the developer’s revenue on their first USD 1,000,000 payment per game per year. Afterward this, they will be charged with the regular 12% revenue share. The same month will also see the launch of the Epic Games Store Webshops too, which will allow developers to release their own webshops (hosted by Epic Games Store) with out-of-app purchase options.
