Google’s SynthID Detector – Global Availability and Supported Features
As mentioned, the SynthID Detector portal is now available through synthid.com, and users can upload media files directly to check for SynthID watermarks. The tool can help identify content created or edited using AI, while specific portions of an image or video containing the watermark can also be highlighted.
Speaking more about its supported providers, the detector can identify SynthID watermarks generated by Google, OpenAI, NVIDIA, and Kakao. Additionally, support for detecting Apple’s SynthID watermarks is expected to be added soon.
Also to note, users are currently required to sign in through a Google, Apple, or OpenAI account to access the portal. Email-based sign-in and verification without an account are not supported at the moment.
Regarding the existing verification options, Gemini can only detect watermarks generated using Google’s AI tools. On the other hand, OpenAI’s verification tool is limited to SynthID signatures created by its own tools. The SynthID Detector portal brings support for multiple providers into one place, allowing users to check supported media through the same interface.
Notably, the tool checks for SynthID watermarks, and the absence of a detected watermark does not necessarily mean that a file was created without AI.
Stay tuned for more updates!
