Discord May 1 Update Adds WebP/AVIF Emoji Uploads, Multi-Image iOS Embeds, Android Video Speed Boost, and Over 60 Bug Fixes

Discord has released its latest patch notes for May 1, 2025, detailing a set of changes across its desktop and mobile platforms. The update introduces support for animated emoji uploads in WebP and AVIF formats, adds multi-image embed functionality on iOS, and modifies the Android video transcode process to improve upload speeds—especially on lower-performance devices.

The updated Android transcode process improves average upload speeds by about 5.6%, with lower-performance devices seeing gains of up to 10.5%. Discord also introduced a new markdown format for linking phone numbers and email addresses using < >, allowing users to link contact information directly in messages. The app now accepts animated emoji uploads in both WebP and AVIF formats, which support alpha transparency, improved colour depth, smaller file sizes, and smoother playback.

In general updates, Discord made macOS notifications simpler and less cluttered. On mobile, tapping text wrapped in backticks now copies the content. Forum search now lets users specify whether to use “AND” or “OR” logic when filtering tags. The team resolved visual alignment issues in the Quest and Account panels, fixed status emoji animation bugs, and corrected misleading context menu options in friend requests. They also fixed tooltip behaviours, mutual server display issues, and emoji animation in reactions. Other updates addressed problems in Mod View, server headers, AutoMod rules, and onboarding tasks.

In chat improvements, Discord refined how the keyboard interacts with changing layouts in areas like Forum Channels. The app now correctly shows avatars in push notifications on iOS, routes users to the right settings tab when configuring welcome messages, and keeps chat layout stable while scrolling. It resolved crashes when revealing blocked messages and improved the reliability of mentions, reactions, and emoji suggestions. Discord also fixed bugs in group DMs, spoiler text, and custom emoji previews.

For Activities and Apps, Discord corrected profile details for bots, adjusted hover interactions, and repositioned menu elements. The Message button on bot profiles now shows text instead of just an icon, and the app no longer misplaces dropdowns in Activity sections.

In voice and video, Discord now lets users invite others or copy channel links by right-clicking their active voice channel in the RTC panel. The update also resolves padding inconsistencies, tooltip mislabeling, and muted audio detection bugs. It fixed display errors with stream overlays, call tiles, and soundboard animations. The team also addressed issues with volume sliders, picture-in-picture mode, and incorrect behaviour when hovering over stream icons or voice settings.

Discord updated the media experience by enabling multi-image embeds on iOS and adding support for inline Apple Music links on desktop. It fixed GIF formatting issues, image filename handling, and animation failures for WebP and AVIF formats. It also resolved errors when forwarding image-heavy messages and corrected UI behaviour when tapping images on iOS.

On accessibility, Discord improved text scaling support up to 200%, fixed keyboard navigation issues in voice popouts, and enhanced screen reader support across the app. It improved label clarity, increased colour contrast in various UI areas, and ensured screen readers announce participant activity in calls. The update also improved the navigation of polls, search results, and profile fields for users relying on screen readers.

With this release, Discord addressed over 60 individual bugs and interface issues, focusing on platform consistency, usability, and accessibility across all supported devices.
