Microsoft is currently in the process of acquiring Activision Blizzard, which has sparked speculation about Call of Duty’s future exclusivity. Every new Call of Duty title is currently available on both PlayStation and Xbox. It has grown into one of the most popular FPS franchises on the market and is Activision’s flagship series. If Microsoft’s acquisition goes through, Call of Duty will join the Xbox Game Studios family, potentially ending the franchise’s days on PlayStation.
Jim Ryan, the CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment, disclosed more details about the agreement that Microsoft offered Sony, and it did not seem adequate. Microsoft gave Sony three years after the current deal to make Call of Duty exclusive to Xbox and PC, which Sony believes is a disservice to the players.
However, the studio is actively pursuing exclusive in-game content with a wide range of video games and is constantly cranking out games that can only be played on PlayStation. These actions make Sony’s comments seem hollow, and they have sparked even more debate about gaming exclusivity.
