Google Teases New Health Device for October 12; Could Be the Fitbit Edge

Google has now teased the arrival of a new health-focused device, and while its name has not been revealed, the teaser suggests that it could be the previously leaked Fitbit Edge. An earlier report had also shared its expected specifications and European pricing.

Via a new post shared by Google Health on X, the brand has teased an upcoming device with the message, “Get an Edge on your health. 10.12.26.” Apart from this, no other details have been shared by the brand. However, the mention of ‘Edge’ suggests that the teaser could be referring to the Fitbit Edge, which recently appeared in a report from Dealabs.

Speaking about its revealed/expected specs, as per the Dealabs report, the upcoming Fitbit Edge will feature a 1.34″ rectangular AMOLED touchscreen with Always-on display support. It is said to run on Fitbit OS with Google Play, and will be compatible with smartphones running Android 11.0 or later and iOS 16.4 or later. Bluetooth 5.4 and GPS connectivity have also been mentioned.

The device is also tipped to offer step, distance, calorie, heart rate, sleep, and menstrual cycle tracking, along with SpO2, skin temperature, ECG, atrial fibrillation detection, and irregular heart rhythm alerts, Cardiac load, fitness, VO2 max, and trends in blood pressure and insulin resistance.

Additionally, over 40 exercise modes are expected to be offered, including tracking for activities such as running, swimming, and golf. Automatic activity recognition and elevation tracking via an altimeter have also been pointed out.

Coming to its sensors, the report mentions an accelerometer, barometer, gyroscope, heart rate sensor, red and infrared sensors for SpO2 monitoring, electrical sensors compatible with the ECG app, an ambient light sensor, and a pedometer.

Also to add, personalised coaching designed with Gemini is expected to be available, along with a personalised fitness programme, Ask Coach, and real-time coaching on the wrist.

Regarding its battery, the Fitbit Edge is said to pack a user-replaceable lithium-ion battery, offering up to seven days of battery life or up to two days with Always-on mode enabled. A full charge is tipped to take two hours via USB-C, while five minutes of fast charging is claimed to offer up to 24 hours of battery life.

The device is also expected to feature an aluminium case and a silicone sport strap with a clasp, along with 5 ATM water resistance and an IP68 rating. Its dimensions are listed as 11.58 x 39.22 x 25.56 mm, with a weight of 17.7 gm. The size S band is said to fit wrists measuring 130–170 mm, while the size L band will fit wrists measuring 170–210 mm.

As per the report, the box will include the Fitbit Edge, sport bands in both S and L sizes, a USB-C fast charging cable, and a quick start guide. Speaking about its pricing, Dealabs has tipped a price of €179 for the European market.
