Yesterday, OpenAI officially entered the hardware market with the debut of its keyboard called Codex Micro, which is designed to pair with its AI coding assistant, Codex.

This compact mechanical keyboard is designed in collaboration with Work Louder. It is equipped with RGB-lit agent keys that show status like thinking, running, waiting or completing a task. For example, White colour represents idle, Green signals towards unread chat, Blue represents thinking, Orange shows user approval need/ questions, and Red shows error.
The keyboard features 13x mechanical switches, 1x touch sensor, 1x rotatory encoder and 1x planar joystick. Users can flick the joystick to launch common Codex workflows like reviewing a PR, debugging an error, or refactoring code. Command keys give your most-used actions a dedicated shortcut, while the rotatory dial adjusts AI reasoning levels.
It supports Bluetooth/ USB-C connection and is compatible with Mac and Windows. It includes the Codex icon key set with 32 extra keycaps. The device is controllable and customizable via the ChatGPT desktop app. Codex Micro can be used as a command center for agentic work.
Codex Micro is available in limited quantity and is not released for the mass market for now.

Codex Micro is priced at $230 with pre-orders open, and shipping will start from 24th July onwards.
