Light officially unveils its Light Flip phone; the device hits back with nostalgia with its retro style

The Brooklyn-based minimalist phone maker, Light, which is known for introducing distraction-free phones in the market, yesterday introduced its latest offering, the Light Flip phone.

Light Flip Phone: Features

Light Flip combines a modern, custom-built operating system, LightOS, and durable hardware. It is designed to address frustration with poorly made feature phones and addictive smartphone ecosystems.

The Light Flip takes advantage of all of the existing LightOS tools, as well as predictive T9, voice-to-text and audio messaging. Available tools include Alarm, Calculator, Calendar, Directory, Directions, Hotspot, Music, Notes/Voice Memos, Podcast, Weather, Authenticator (2FA), and Timer. It boasts 9 speed dials and a form factor that prioritises calling.

The company has also recently launched a developer program for community-built and open-source tools.

In terms of specs, it measures 110mm x 58mm x 19mm (when folded) and weighs 160g. It features a 2.8-inch OLED display that offers 460×460 screen resolution. The device is backed by an 1800 mAh battery and powered by the MediaTek MT8873 chipset. It supports 5G+ 4GLTE network, GPS and Bluetooth 5.0 connectivity options. It comes with USB-C 2.0, a 3.5mm headphone jack, dual mics with noise cancellation, dual stereo speakers, nano SIM+ eSIM support and an IP54 rating. The device offers 6GB RAM and 128GB storage. It packs a 50MP rear sensor.

Light Flip Phone: Availability

The device comes in 6 colour options: Black, Navy, Red, Pink, Yellow and Gray. It is available unlocked for $299, while the company has also introduced a two-year contract option that lets you buy the device for $39/month, which includes a service plan by AT&T and T-Mobile’s network with 1GB data and unlimited calls and texts.

Reservations for this device are currently open, and it will start shipping in April 2027 in batches:

  • Batch 1: Ships April 2027
  • Batch 2: Ships late April 2027
  • Batch 3: Ships May 2027
  • Batch 4: Ships late May 2027
