ASUS Unveils its Latest ROG Phone 8 Series Devices for Global and Indian Markets

The Taiwanese tech company, ASUS, has finally unveiled two of its latest ROG Phone 8 series gaming smartphones globally. The specs and other features of the devices have been revealed.

ASUS ROG Phone 8 Series Unveiled

ASUS ROG Phone 8 series consists of two smartphone models – the vanilla ROG Phone 8 and the ROG Phone 8 Pro, and both these devices have been unveiled in the global market, but only the vanilla model in India, via the Transcendence Launch Event. At the CES 2024 event commencing today in Las Vegas, both the gaming smartphones are to be presented live to the audience and participants.

ASUS ROG Phone 8

The vanilla ROG Phone 8 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor, and is integrated with the Adreno 750 GPU. The device has the Android 14 operating system with the ROG UI custom skin on top. The device comes with up to 16GB of RAM(LPDDR5X) and 256GB storage(UFS 4.0).

For its display, the smartphone features a 6.78″ Samsung Flexible AMOLED display with a FHD+ resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels, and LTPO refresh rate of 1Hz ~ 120Hz and maximum refresh rate of 165Hz.

At the rear, the device sports a triple camera unit with a 50MP primary shooter, 13MP ultrawide camera, and a 32MP 3X optical zoom camera. For selfies, there is a 32MP front-facing camera as well.

Regarding the battery, the smartphone packs a 5,500 mAh battery which supports Quick Charge 5.0 and PD charging. A 65W fast charge feature is also supported on the device.

Other specs include 5G network connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11 be/ax/ac/a/b/g/n with 2.4GHz/ 5GHz/ 6GHz Wi-Fi bands, Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, in-display fingerprint scanner, 5-magnet speaker, 5-magnet receiver, three microphones(with ASUS noise reduction technology), 8.9 mm thickness, and 225 gm weight. The device has an IP68-rated body with two color choices of Rebel Grey and Phantom Black.

ASUS ROG Phone 8 Pro

The ASUS ROG Phone 8 Pro also comes equipped with the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset, integrated with the Adreno 750 GPU, and runs on the Android 14 based ROG UI custom skin. It has storage variants ranging with up to 24GB LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB UFS 4.0 storage.

The smartphone has a 6.78″ FHD+ Samsung Flexible AMOLED display screen with a resolution of 2400 x 1080 pixels. The display also supports LTPO 1Hz ~ 120Hz refresh rate, and a maximum refresh rate of up to 165Hz.

About the cameras, there is a 50MP(main) + 13MP(ultrawide) + 32MP(optical zoom) triple camera unit at the rear, along with a front camera of 32MP.

A total battery backup of 5,500 mAh is backed within the device, and the battery supports both Quick Charge 5.0 and PD charging protocols. The device also supports a wired fast charge feature of up to 65W.

Some of the other keys specs are the 5G network connectivity, Wi-Fi 802.11 be/ax/ac/a/b/g/n (2.4GHz/ 5GHz/ 6GHz band support), Bluetooth 5.3, NFC, in-display fingerprint reader, 3.5 mm audio jack, 5-magnet receiver, 5-magnet speaker, triple microphones, thickness of 8.9 mm, and a weight of 225 gm. The Pro model only comes in the Phantom Black color with IP68 rating.

Price

As far as the price is concerned, it is reported that the 16GB/256GB model of the vanilla ROG Phone 8 will be priced $1,099 (about Rs. 91,000), whereas the ROG Phone 8 Pro’s 24GB/1TB model is said to have a price tag of $1,499.99 (about Rs. 1,25,000)
