Recently, Amazon officially unveiled its redesigned Kindle lineup. The new lineup includes three models: Kindle, Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft. They are thinner and lighter, with a new display stack and seamless edge-to-edge colour across the lineup.
Amazon redesigned the Kindle lineup
The company introduced a newly designed reverse stack display, a flush front and a seamless edge-to-edge display across the lineup. The physical colour of each device now wraps seamlessly from front to back. The lineup introduces stylish new colours: Ube (a rich purple), Alpine Sky, Seaglass Green, and Graphite, and brings Fig to e-readers for the first time.
Amazon Kindle
The all-new 6-inch Kindle arrives with 16GB of storage, up to 6 weeks of battery life and 30% faster book opening than the previous release. It is lighter and features a new seamless flush-front design. The housing is made from recycled materials with a 100% recycled cobalt battery.
It is also available for the first time with an aluminium back. The housing is crafted from 80% recycled aluminium with a matte finish.
Kindle Paperwhite
The all-new Kindle Paperwhite is thinner and lighter than the previous lineup, waterproof, with an adjustable warm light for comfortable reading at any hour, and up to 12 weeks of battery life on a single charge. The Paperwhite display uses an oxide-thin film transistor backplane and is the largest Kindle Paperwhite display with the highest contrast ratio—delivering deep blacks and crisp text, and images that pop off the screen, whether you’re reading in bright sunlight or under the covers at night.
The Signature Edition adds aluminium rear housing, 32 GB of storage, an auto-adjusting front light, pogo pin dock charging, and double-tap to turn pages—all while remaining thinner than the previous version.
Kindle Colorsoft
It delivers paper-like colour that’s easy on the eyes. Kindle Colorsoft display includes a light-guide with nitride LEDs to enhance colour and increase brightness. It uses an oxide backplane with custom waveforms for fast performance and higher contrast on both colour and black-and-white content. The light guide contains micro-deflectors that minimise stray light and improve uniformity, and an ultra-thin optical coating in the display stack improves clarity.
The Colorsoft Signature Edition adds aluminium housing, 32GB of storage, an auto-adjusting front light, double-tap to turn pages, and pogo pin dock charging.
These devices also come in Kids versions featuring kid-friendly covers designed by real artists, and 12 months of Amazon Kids+ included, giving access to thousands of books and audiobooks.
The company has also introduced some Kindle accessories:
- Kindle Click: A compact Bluetooth remote for page turning—ideal for reading under the covers, on a treadmill, or on a tray table during a flight. Compatible with all new Kindle devices, as well as any Kindle model from 2024 or later.
- Page-Turn cover: A magnetic cover with physical page-turn buttons that preserves the slim form factor, using pogo pin connectivity. Available for Paperwhite Signature Edition and Colorsoft Signature Edition.
- Charging Dock: A stand that keeps Paperwhite Signature Edition and Colorsoft Signature Edition upright and charged.
- Kindle Covers: Available in knit fabric, plant-based leather, and pebbled premium leather covers that wrap fully around the device for a seamless finish, colour-matched across the lineup. For devices with aluminium housing, slim magnetic-attach covers are also available.
Availability
Kindle and its aluminium version are available in the US, Canada, Mexico, Brazil, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, Sweden, Poland, Japan, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Egypt and Australia.
Kindle Paperwhite and Kindle Colorsoft will become available for pre-order on a rolling basis in the same regions. The new Kids Kindle is available for sale, and Kids Kindle Colorsoft is available for pre-order in the US, Canada, the UK, Germany and Japan.
