VVS Laxman reveals why Virat Kohli and Rahul Dravid didn’t insist on a follow-on in Mumbai Test

Most anticipated Kohli to force a follow-on after the bowlers demolished New Zealand for just 62 runs with the visitors trailing by 263 runs. But he didn't, and his tactics was questioned by social media users.

Virat Kohli was never a fan of making a follow-on mandatory. Most, if not all, anticipated the Indian skipper to demand a follow-on when the bowlers demolished New Zealand for just 62 with the visitors 263 behind. But he didn’t, and his tactics were questioned on social media, but former Indian cricketer VVS Laxman stated on Sunday that, with the South Africa Test series approaching, he, too, would have wanted his hitters to get some runs under their belts before of the vital overseas clash.

In an interview with Star Sports ahead of the start of Day 4 in Mumbai, Laxman said that the decision will allow Kohli and Cheteshwar Pujara to reach the elusive three-figure mark. He also stated that India will bat all day 3 of the match.

“The reason Virat Kohli and Rahul Dravid didn’t enforce a follow-on was because they wanted their batters to spend more time on the wicket and get some runs in before the South Africa series.” You want Pujara and Kohli to finally reach the magical three-figure mark that has eluded them for so long. As a result, I believe they will bat the entire day. That will be their primary objective. I believe they would reconsider at tea, but if I were Kohli or Dravid, I would want them to bat all day. He stated, “It’s the third day of the Test match, not the fourth day.”
