An Elon Musk associate informed a far-right activist banned from Twitter for fundraising to ‘take out’ a BLM activist that he would get his account back soon, according to a report

According to a Wall Street Journal article, a close acquaintance of Elon Musk informed a far-right activist who was banned from Twitter that he might get his account back shortly after the Tesla billionaire bought the platform.

Charles Johnson was banned from Twitter in 2015 after he used the website to fundraise to “takedown” Black Lives Matter activist DeRay McKesson. Johnson was notorious for trolling on the network and doxxing journalists.

On Monday, Twitter revealed that it had accepted Musk’s $44 billion bid to buy the company. According to the Journal, when Johnson learned of the offer, he texted Jared Birchall, who oversees Musk’s personal investment office and was working on the sale.

“When will I be able to reclaim my Twitter account?” Johnson inquired.

According to The Journal, Birchall replied, “Hopefully soon.”

Johnson could not be reached for comment right away. He told the Journal that he wants his account restored, but that he does not intend to tweet on a regular basis again.

Musk has stated that he wants Twitter to be a public platform for free speech, which has sparked discussion about how the platform’s content management will evolve and whether previously banned users will be able to return.
