Google Teams Up With Elementl Power to Generate 1.8 GW of Power Via Three Advanced Nuclear Projects

The California-based tech maker – Google has announced that it will be teaming up with the advanced nuclear project developer – Elementl Power, and together plans to build three potential nuclear reactor sites in the US to generate clean and reliable energy. A total of 1.8 GW power is said to be generated via these three advanced nuclear projects.

Following the advent of AI into the tech sphere, brands have started to focus more on it and Google is one such brand that has been focusing more on AI developments and its research. However, as its AI ambitions strengthens, power requirements have also increased at its data centers and reportedly Google has been working on to find the needed energy resources to meet with this demand. Already, the brand has invested USD 75 billion too for building its data center capacity.

This week, an official announcement from the brand’s side has revealed that it will be teaming up with Elementl Power – in three advanced nuclear projects. From the three nuclear reactor sites that will be set up in the US, Google and Elementl Power plans to generate 1800 MW/1.8 GW of nuclear power in total (~ 600MW from each site). To add, the nuclear reactor will be connected to the power grid, with an option for commercial off take.

Speaking more, it has to be noted that Elementl Power has not yet built any power plants as of now, even though it has experience working in the nuclear power industry – hence Google will be providing the early-stage capital for the three mentioned projects. Furthermore, the decision of which SMR (Small Modular Reactor) company to work with has not been decided by Elementl Power, however Kairos Power could be a preferred choice as it already has an existing deal with Google.
