It is known to everybody that Activa scooters have been ruling hearts for a long time being the majority of consumers’ first choice. All the Activa consumers have been waiting eagerly for Activa Electric Scooters but after the announcement above made by HMSI CEO, they knew they have to wait for one more year. But seems like the wait is too long for the consumers as recently a modder running a YouTube channel has converted an existing Activa into an electric scooter.
The modder is from Nellore, Andhra Pradesh, and runs a YouTube channel named Diy Tech.in Telugu. The modder has converted a standard ICE Activa into an IV and according to him the total cost of modification including the cost of the Old Activa was Rs. 1 lakh.
Let’s take a look at the changes made in Old Activa to convert it into Electric Scooter
According to RushLane, the modder has interchanged the engine of Old Activa with an electric battery. A hub motor is mounted at the rear wheel to achieve propulsion and according to the modder, this motor is rated at 1 kW of continuous power and 2 to 2.5 kW of peak power as well. The battery used is a 72V 40A unit with prismatic cells and has 2.88kWh worth of capacity. If the modder is to be believed, the electric scooter gives a range of over 120 km from a single charge and the top speed is limited to 55 km/h.
Other features included in the Electric Scooter
According to the modder, the scooter features a smart Battery Management System which enables smartphone connectivity to display various vehicular info. The motor controller in the scooter comes with three speeds that can be cycled through a custom switch. There is also a parking mode switch that cuts power to the motor, and the analog instrumentation of Activa is replaced with a fully digital unit. The charging point is mounted near the footboard and the starter switch is converted into a horn. Also, the battery comes with a warranty of 3 years which is an advantage.
