MirrorLink: All you should know about it

MirrorLink is the new way of connecting your phone’s screen to the car. Nokia created and introduced MirrorLink which came into existence in 2010. This technology allowed you to connect your smartphones to the vehicle’s infotainment display. Unlike Android Auto or Apple CarPlay, MirrorLink `was an open-source technology that can be customized by any automaker or software provider. The Car Connectivity Consortium (CCC), which controls the platform as well, established the MirrorLink regulations.

For use on a compatible phone, you should download the MirrorLink application and then connects it to the infotainment system through a USB cable and Bluetooth. Which allowed you to control your apps using steering wheel controls or voice commands as well as touchscreen and dashboard buttons.

The feature doesn’t allow the use of a browser due to distraction and there was specific to make calls, check weather forecasts, navigate and listen to music. Later it was suppressed by the Google Assistant Driving Mode, Android Auto, and CarPlay. The technology was limited to the phone models of 2016 and 2017.
