MG Motor India unveils India’s first multi-NEV platform, ADAPT; Will underpin PHEVs, strong hybrids, range-extender hybrids and EV models

Today, JSW MG Motor India has officially introduced ADAPT (Advanced Drive Architecture Platform Technology), claimed to be India’s first multi-NEV platform.

The new platform is revealed to underpin EVs, hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) and range-extender electric vehicles (REEVs). While introducing the ADAPT platform, the automaker also confirmed that the first two products based on this platform- an EV and a PHEV will be launched by the end of FY2026-27.

ADAPT platform unveiled

The platform has been designed to improve driving range, enable faster charging, enhance efficiency, improve safety and offer a more refined driving experience. With this platform, the company can build multiple powertrain options.

ADAPT platform is integrated with a hybrid technology ecosystem that combines several new components:

  • Dedicated hybrid petrol engine: higher thermal efficiency and lower fuel consumption
  • Dedicated battery system: Quicker electric response, improved safety and higher efficiency
  • India’s first 10-in-1 Intelligent Electric Drive Unit
  • World’s first Electromagnetic Dedicated Hybrid Transmission (DHT): Smooth power delivery and quicker response

The platform comes with four intelligent drive modes to maximise efficiency:

  • Pure EV mode: Vehicle runs solely on electric power for quiet urban driving
  • Series Mode: The petrol engine generates electricity, and the electric motor drives the wheels
  • Parallel Mode: Engine and Electric motor work together
  • Engine Direct Mode: Engine powers the wheels directly

MG ADAPT also supports REEVs. In this configuration, the electric motor always powers the wheels, while a petrol engine acts solely as a generator to recharge the battery when required.
