Concerns surrounding E20 petrol have been circulating widely across social media, with several vehicle owners claiming that the higher ethanol-blended fuel is causing issues in cars that were manufactured before 2022. A few users have also claimed that they have witnessed a noticeable reduction in the mileage of their vehicles after using E20 petrol.
Adding to this, popular YouTuber Sourav Joshi has now shared a similar concern regarding his Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC. Following his video, Mercedes-Benz India has also issued an official response, confirming the E20 fuel compatibility of its petrol BS VI vehicles.

Sourav Joshi Claims Mileage Drop in Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC; Company Responds
In a video shared through his official YouTube channel titled Race With Brothers 🤣 Kon Jeetega ? (That part of the video appears to have been removed), Sourav Joshi was seen driving his Mercedes-Benz GLC 300 4MATIC, and claimed that the mileage of his luxury SUV has dropped significantly. According to the YouTuber, his vehicle earlier used to deliver a mileage of around 16 to 17 kmpl, which later dropped to 9 kmpl and has now reportedly fallen further to just 5 kmpl within a span of just 2 days.
To add a personal observation, I also drive a 2022 Skoda Slavia powered by the 1.0-litre TSI engine, and during heavy city traffic, the vehicle generally delivers a mileage of around 6 to 7 kmpl. However, while driving on highway with a light accelerator input and without sudden acceleration, I have managed to achieve a mileage of around 15 to 16 kmpl on XP95 fuel which some say is also coming with E20 blend.
Moving on, Mercedes-Benz India has now responded via its official X account to the concerns raised through the viral video.
In that post, the brand mentions, “At Mercedes-Benz, customer safety, vehicle reliability and performance are of paramount importance to us. All Mercedes-Benz petrol BS VI vehicles are materially compatible with E20 fuel and certified accordingly by relevant authorities. We are happy to support customers for any technical queries. Mercedes-Benz remains committed to sustainable mobility.”

While some say that this ethanol-blended fuel is causing harm and some even post about the EPC light being shown in their Volkswagen and Skoda cars lately, several car manufacturers have stated that there’s no effect of E20 fuel.
