Anonymous on Twitter, “Russia is overflowing with Z-propaganda”

As Russia’s military campaign in Ukraine fuels Western condemnation, Moscow’s efforts to counter it and mobilise pro-war sentiment are increasing. Russia is now running a propaganda video for its public to watch.

The main thing about the propaganda is to educate the masses about how Russia is winning to glory. Anonymous had shared one of such videos that is making the round on social media.

The letter “Z” has emerged as a prominent propaganda symbol in Russia’s attack on Ukraine. It has drawn comparisons to swastikas worn by Nazi soldiers in World War II. The origin of the letter’s connection to the war is murky, according to Kamil Galeev. Some interpret ‘Z’ as ‘Za pobedy’ (for victory).

It first drew attention when the letter Z was painted on various Russian military vehicles gathered along Russia’s border with Ukraine nearly a month ago. Following the Kremlin’s invasion on February 24, it was seen again on tanks and armoured vehicles on the battlefield, alongside letters such as O, X, A, and V.
