ITC to Ban BOE Displays in US: What Does This Mean for Google’s Pixel 10 Series and Apple’s iPhone 17 Series

As a result of infringing Samsung’s display patents, ITC or the International Trade Commission has decided to ban BOE displays from the US market. Though this decision has not yet been finalized, BOE is believed to receive a 15 year ban in the market. In this context, what will happen to Google, Apple, and other such smartphone brands that have relied on BOE’s displays?

How Will the BOE Display Ban Affect Google and Apple?
The California-based tech maker – Google has already officially announced its next Pixel 10 series (Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, Pixel 10 Pro XL, Pixel 10 Pro Fold) launch and it is scheduled to take place next week both in the global and Indian markets. Apple on the other hand is expected to be ready with its next iPhone 17 series models (iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max), and the Cupertino-based brand was revealed to have entered its field testing phase – pointing to its nearing launch as well (that is said to take place likely in September/October 2025). Both of these US smartphone makers have used BOE’s OLED displays on their flagships, however the BOE ban is reported to have only a ‘little impact’ for them as noted by Ross Young (Display Analyst) on X.
Speaking more, Ross Young mentions that both Google and Apple will be able to sell their upcoming Pixel 10 series and iPhone 17 series flagships in the US, however the BOE ban will be affecting the repair market – meaning consumers who purchase the latest Pixel 10 series and iPhone 17 series smartphones will have a really hard time to get their devices fixed if the display gets damaged. Also, since only a limited number of replacement screens will be available, the cost of repair is probably going to be higher than usual.
So, while the smartphone launches and sales won’t be a problem for Google and Apple, consumers may likely have to be very cautious when using these mentioned devices. It is also best to invest in a smartphone case as well as a screen protector to prevent damages caused by accidental falls and more.
