NASA’s Hubble Space Telescope Captured Image Reveals a Glimpse of the Spiral Galaxy UGC 10043

Hubble, a space telescope of NASA, has captured the image of Galaxy UGC 10043, featuring an edge-on glimpse of it. Also, the Galaxy UGC 10043 is also among the rarest spiral galaxies that Hubble is capable of seeing.

Edge-On Glimpse of Galaxy UGC 10043 Captured by NASA Hubble

The Galaxy UGC 10043, as mentioned, is one of the rare spiral galaxies that can be seen via NASA Hubble, and it is around 150 million light years away from planet Earth, and is present in the constellation Serpens. However, since this image features the Galaxy UGC 10043 from the side, its spiral arms cannot be spotted properly.

Speaking more, based on the edge-on perspective, the disk-shape of the Galaxy UGC 10043 looks like a sharp line, with dust lanes appearing as thick bands of clouds. If a top-down view is made possible, one would be able to find the dust scattered across the Galaxy UGC 10043, and it may also outline the spiral arms.

A glowing egg-shaped bulge is there at the center, holding the stars which orbit it above and below. The siphoning material of a neighboring dwarf galaxy is considered as the reason for the unusually larger size of the bulge. It may also be the reason which causes the disk to bend upwards at one end and downwards at the other end.

Regarding the image as such, it is a combination of many individual snapshots with different light wavelengths, and what makes this Galaxy UGC 10043 image unique is the fact that the two sets of data used to make this image have been collected in 2000 and 2023 respectively, about 23 years apart.
