Kelvin Security hacks Chilean bank compromising 17.736 dataset records

Daily Dark Web Twitter handle claimed that sensitive data of Banco Bci Chile is leaked by Kelvin Security which is a hacking activity group that performs vulnerable investigations. Banco de Crédito e Inversiones (BCI) is a well-known Chilean bank specializing in savings and deposits security brokerage, asset management, and insurance.

The Twitter handle claims that Chilean data has been leaked on the dark web platforms. The breached dataset includes 17.736 records.

According to reports, there has been an ongoing Chilean protest since 2019 which includes a series of riots that originated in Santiago and spreads all over Chile. The Chilean protests started all over Chile against the government. Almost 1.2 million people took it to the streets with a raising slogan against severe inequality, poverty, shattering healthcare, minimal wages, and economic disparity in the state. The protesters also demanded the resignation of their former president. The protest march was called “The biggest march of Chile.”

The protests were against Augusto Pinochet’s military dictatorship and it broke out as history’s “worst civil unrest.” However, the people elected a new president in 2021 named Gabriel Boric who is a 35 years old student political leader.

Chilean political unrest could play a role in the low maintenance of cyber security in the country. The reason for the hacker group’s target is also vague since the political unrest has been finally lifted as the newly elected President resumed office in March 2022. Although it can be stated that for the new government to gain momentum toward a stable economy and security will still take some time.
